FACT CHECK: Peltola’s New “Energy Plan” Can’t Rewrite Her Anti-Energy Record

Yesterday, Mary Peltola released what she’s calling an “energy plan”, casting herself as a champion of Alaska oil and gas. Her weak record in Congress tells a different story.

Here are the facts:

FACT: Peltola Whipped Votes Against Her Own Alaska Energy Bill — Then Voted “Present”: In Congress, Peltola introduced the Alaska’s Right to Produce Act, which would have reopened Alaska oil and gas development after years of Biden administration restrictions. After pressure from Democrat leadership, she privately whipped votes against her own bill. When it came to the floor, she refused to vote yes or no. Instead, she voted “present,” helping the Biden administration keep Alaska energy locked up. Now, she’s flip-flopping again and claims she’ll “stand up to anyone” to invest in Alaska energy production.

FACT: Zero of Peltola’s Bills Were Signed Into Law: In her years in Congress, Peltola did not get a single piece of pro-Alaska energy legislation signed into law, and even voted against energy legislation that would have lowered energy costs for Alaska families.

FACT: Peltola Supported Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act: Peltola supported the Inflation Reduction Act, which increased costs for Alaskans and imposed the first-ever federal methane fee — a direct new tax on the natural gas industry she now claims to champion. She also called Joe Biden one of the “smartest, sharper people I’ve ever met in D.C.”

FACT: Peltola Likes “Concepts” of the Green New Deal: Peltola said she likes concepts of the Green New Deal, a far-left plan to phase out oil and gas entirely which is estimated to cost Alaska households tens of thousands of dollars more per year in energy costs.

FACT: Peltola Wants to Prioritize Renewable Energy Over Oil and Gas: Peltola said “we need to invest 10 times” as much in renewable energy as in oil and gas, and that Alaska’s “future is in renewable energy.”

BOTTOM LINE: There is no plan Mary Peltola can write to undo her backwards record of voting against Alaska’s energy industry, or to change the fact that her first vote in the Senate would be to hand the majority to Chuck Schumer and the same Democrats who spent four years locking up Alaska’s resources.
