Dan Delivers for Juneau

ANCHORAGE, AK —  Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) has delivered significant wins for the Juneau community, from responding to devastating glacial flooding, supporting local schools, improving infrastructure, and strengthening the Coast Guard’s resources.  

Responding to Juneau’s Glacial Flooding: Following the recent and devastating annual floods, Senator Sullivan visited with homeowners and worked with local leaders and top federal officials to secure immediate assistance and advance long-term, enduring solutions. His efforts helped deliver over 100,000 sandbags, six miles of HESCO barriers, federal disaster declarations, and $4.75 million for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to address flood recovery and mitigation

Earlier this year Senator Sullivan returned to Juneau to meet with affected property owners, contractors, and UAS scientists and see firsthand the progress being made to protect the community from future flooding. Building on this momentum, Senator Sullivan led efforts to advance the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) out of committee, a key legislative milestone toward accelerating USACE’s long-term response and permanent flood mitigation solutions for Juneau.

Strengthening Juneau’s Coast Guard Resources: Senator Sullivan helped secure the historic $25 billion investment in the U.S. Coast Guard, $300 million built the port infrastructure needed to homeport the USCGC Storis in Juneau. He successfully fought to bring the USCGC Storis to Juneau, strengthening the city’s Coast Guard presence and creating permanent jobs in the city.

Investing in Juneau’s Ports and Infrastructure: 

Alaska Marine Highway System: Senator Sullivan helped secure major investments for Alaska’s transportation infrastructure, including $3.5 billion for Alaska surface transportation and expanded federal programs supporting ferry service, vessels, and terminals critical to Juneau and Southeast Alaska. 

Aurora Harbor Drive Down Project: Senator Sullivan secured over $11 million for a new drive-down float, vehicle bridge, and two electric cranes to better serve Juneau’s commercial fishing fleet and improve freight transportation. 

Juneau Douglas North Crossing: Senator Sullivan helped secure $16.45 million to complete final design and development work for a new bridge connecting Douglas Island to the Alaska mainland, advancing a critical transportation project for Juneau. 

Reconnecting Lemon Creek Project: Senator Sullivan helped secure $654,520 to improve transportation access and connectivity in Juneau’s Lemon Creek neighborhood, helping remove infrastructure barriers for residents. 

Supporting Juneau Schools: Senator Sullivan championed the reauthorization of the Secure Rural School program, which provides Juneau approximately $1 million annually to support the community. 

Bringing the Marine Debris Foundation to Juneau: Senator Sullivan helped create the Marine Debris Foundation through the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act and spent two years advocating for its headquarters to be located in Juneau at the University of Alaska Southeast since Alaska has the largest coastline in the United States.
