“[Senator Sullivan’s] advocacy for American construction jobs, Buy American provisions, and other labor standards in national defense contracting and the nation’s surface transportation program is commendable,” General President James T. Callahan and Local 302 Business Manager & General Vice President Daren Konopaski said in a statement. “These fundamental issues put Operating Engineers to work, fund our world-class training programs, promote workplace safety, sustain family-supporting wages, and allow Operating Engineers to retire with dignity.”
“I am incredibly honored to have the support of the IUOE,” said Senator Dan Sullivan. “Operating Engineers and their families have a long and successful track record of promoting economic activity, creating new jobs, and supporting our communities. I look forward to continuing this strong relationship and building up Alaska through new transportation and infrastructure projects that are vital to our state.”
The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) represents 400,000 working people across the United States and Canada. Members of the IUOE are primarily operating engineers, who work as heavy equipment and crane operators, pipeliners, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers, who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes, as well as a number of job classifications in the petrochemical industry.
